There is no right or wrong, only right or left.
~Malidoma Patrice Somé, Dagara Shaman Elder
MINDFULNESS and living mindfully is a Yes, And. . . game of recognizing the validity and value of BOTH spirituality and science.
Life shouldn’t be about choosing between this or that, and separating everything into two opposite boxes…which inevitably leads to competition.
Life could be a beautiful improv game of yes, and… which inevitably leads to cooperation, collaboration, and a mutual respect for evolution and growth.
In this 5 Laws of A Mindful Life Mini-Lesson (for paid subscribers), I explain some basic laws of science as spiritual truths, and some basic concepts of spirituality through a scientific lens.
The Spirit of Science
energy is neither created nor destroyed
for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction
The Science of Spirit
Reincarnation
The Law of Attraction
Auras & Chakras
FINALLY, I offer one very simple Mindfulness Exercise to get your left brain (science) and your right brain (spirit) to work together in oneness.
The Spirit of Science
Energy is neither created nor destroyed
Everything on the planet is made out of atoms and molecules, otherwise known as “matter”. In other words, everything matters. This basic law of science is the simple fact that matter is always reorganizing itself. The atoms and molecules are constantly “jumping ship” from each other to form different manifestations of matter. And that new matter matters too! While we may think a huge explosion is a destruction, it really is just a reorganization of matter, of atoms and molecules taking on a different form. When we look at this simple concept, spiritually, it shows us that nothing is permanent, everything always changes, always. Yet, the constant we can count on is that nothing every really goes away, it just shape-shifts!For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction
While this is the common law of CAUSE and EFFECT, from a spiritual perspective, it is the law of BALANCE. Everything on the planet is always maintaining BALANCE. For example, for every day, there is night. For every summer, there is winter. Mother Earth, and our lives in general are always about maintaining some sort of balance. When something gets a little off kilter, the spiritual belief, as supported by science, is that an equal and opposite reaction will eventually create that balance. So, if we have to live in duality, we must know that duality always seeks the oneness of BALANCE.
The Science of Spirit
Reincarnation
Since all matter in the universe is constantly re-organizing itself, it only makes sense that our human bodies and souls, are part of that matter re-org. There’s a scientific concept called “Caesar’s last breath” in which mathematicians calculate that at this very moment, you are breathing in one of the atoms that Caesar breathed out in his dying breath. (stay tuned, I’ll write more about Caesar’s last breath in Aug 2024 when I focused on breath). That Caesar atom, for a time, was part of Caesar, and is now part of you. Perhaps, the concept of reincarnation isn’t about our souls dying and coming back in whole, but rather, parts of us are constantly reincarnating as all our atoms and molecules are constantly shifting around in the universe. So, when some psychic tells you “you were Cleopatra in a past life” you can believe her, because it is scientifically provable that some atom floating around in your body right now also floated around inside Cleopatra. Perhaps, all the wisdom she carried with her is coded into every atom she ever carried as part of her. And now, every atom you carry in you is coded with the wisdom of every living breathing soul that ever held that atom at some time in history. Yup…that’s a bit mind-blowing. And that’s what science and spirit are….mindblowing.The Law of Attraction
The Law of Attraction isn’t really about manifesting stuff out of thin air (the first law of physics explained above proves such). Rather, the Law of Attraction is about your ability to perceive and be conscious and aware of the abundance that already exists around you. This has to do with retraining the filter in your brain called the RAS, the reticular activation system, which determines what things in your world you consciously notice. This fun (and very popular article) offers a great explanation of the RAS and how it works.Auras
Going back to that concept of matter, that we are all made up of atoms and molecules reorganizing themselves…whenever someone gets a little too close to you and invades your “personal space” bubble, you feel it, even though they aren’t touching you. This is because their aura is invading your aura. Auras are simply the non-dense atoms and molecules that emanate from your body. They are the atoms and molecules that are getting ready to “jump ship” or that have most recently jumped onto you. I like to think of the human aura as the light than emanates from the lightbulb of the human (or any living being).Chakras
The yogis and spiritual people all describe the chakras as energy centers in the body. Really, the chakras are just part of your central nervous system, which is the electrical wiring system of your body that transmits messages and information along your nerves to get your body to talk to itself. A Chakra is simply an intersection of nerves. You have 70-million chakras in your system, one for every time a nerve pathway intersects with another nerve pathway. The seven main chakras live along the spinal cord, where the largest intersections of nerves exist.
Mindfulness Exercise
How to connect your left brain (science) and right brain (spirit) with one yin/yang mindfulness exercise.
Living in ONENESS in a dualistic world can be very very challenging. And, taking this tiny mindful approach to a common daily action can change everything and help you connect your left and right brains from duality into oneness.
Mindful Walking
Walking is the absolute best exercise for your body. It is low-impact, it works all your muscles and tissues, it supports better balance, and it works BOTH SIDES OF YOUR BRAIN. Your left brain controls your right body and your right brain controls your left body. When you mindfully walk with cross-body action, you work both sides of your brain. Add breathing, and a mindful intention to your walking, and you have a trifecta of mindfulness in getting your whole body to work together as one complete unit.
Here’s how it works
Choose a time to walk mindfully. I suggest you choose a walk you take several times a day, such as walking to your car, or walking to the bathroom. It doesn’t have to be a long walk. Actually shorter is better.
Breathe. As you walk, time your steps to match your breath. It might take awhile to figure out the right number of steps per breath. In time, you can play with the timing. The idea is that you balance your breath to your walk. For example, three steps inhale, three steps exhale.
Cross Ambulate. In other words, be mindful to swing your arms opposite your stride. As your right leg steps forward, your left arm swings forward. As your left leg steps forward, your right arm swings forward. As you cross-ambulate mindfully like this, you work both sides of your brain and you promote better balance.
Repeat an Affirmation. You can choose any affirmation. A good one is “I AM WHOLE” or “I AM ONE” or “I AM LIVING IN ONENESS.” Match your affirmation to your breath and your strides.
It will take a few times to get into the groove of this. It’s kinda like rubbing your belly and patting your head. It takes practice. The more you practice, the easier it gets, and the better the two sides of your brain work together, promoting oneness in your life.

Comment
I’d love to know what your thoughts are on these spiritual sciences, and if you have your own scientific explanations for spiritual phenomena…or if you just want to share how this mindful walking works for you…
I find the Caesars law to be fascinating. I believe in reincarnation as far as we can never be truly destroyed. A piece of us must live on somehow. This can't be all there is.
I'm going to try the mindfulness walk in the morning. I already try to breathe deeper on morning walks, now I'll count and chant too 😊
I never even thought about walking like that and doing that even though that's something I did all the time while I Ran So I'm definitely going to be trying this out today I'll literally was just swinging my arms while I was walking around at work I probably looked crazy cuz I was all so holding two cases of cranberry juice
